We have quite the Red Dead Redemption rumor that may or may not pique your interest.
As shared on Twitter by user CoffeeSneeze, a deleted Reddit post showed a trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, coming this March 2025, to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It isn’t really possible to ascertain the credibility of this rumor, as the alleged original source in Reddit is gone.
CoffeeSneeze was also able to save a screencap of what the Redditor said to accompany this trailer snippet, and we’ll share it for you below:
“A trailer for RDR2 on “new” gen I was shown when I worked at Rockstar for a short time. However I think it has been abandoned as to not interfere with GTA 6’s marketing, unless they delay that and give fans more RDR content as a holdover.
I have the full trailer on my drive. It focuses more on Arthur and the story instead of any new graphical features. Pretty much to get old fans all nostalgic and to double dip. So don’t get too excited. It’s pretty much the PC version on console.”
If it’s true, it does paint an interesting picture for Rockstar’s plans for the past few years. It’s possible that the company was planning a rollout of their classic games in the buildup to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
It’s obviously a pretty good idea, as the market is currently trending towards remakes and rereleases of classic games. Both small and big budget rereleases have done decently, with some titles, such as Metroid Prime Remastered, Resident Evil 4, or literally everything NightDive releases, clearly going past expectations.
But Rockstar also very clearly botched that when they released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The reputational damage on that release may have led to unfairly poor reception of their subsequent rerelease of Red Dead Redemption, will likely also harm the seeming looming rerelease of Bully Canis Canem.
We can’t say if they will or will not go through with this planned current gen rerelease. If it is essentially the PC version on console, then there won’t be enough enhancements to make Red Dead Redemption 2 PlayStation 5 Pro Certified.
Whether it makes sense for Rockstar to go through with it or not, of course, depends on how much it cost them to make the current generation ports, and we won’t even try to guess on that one. But maybe there will be enough fans willing to double dip and make the effort worthwhile.
