Last week, it was rumored that the upcoming first-person action RPG Avowed would be pushed from its 2024 release window to drop sometime in 2025. Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Obsidian Entertainment have confirmed this to be the case, delaying the game from it’s planned fall 2024 release window to February 18, 2025.
While the game is largely complete, the latter half of 2024 is packed with triple-A releases, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the Starfield: Shattered Space expansion. Rather than release Avowed amid so many heavy hitters, the team decided giving it time to breathe was the better course of action.
“We’re proud of what the [Obsidian Entertainment] team have accomplished with [Avowed] and want to make sure they have the best launch possible,” said Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. “We look forward to you enjoying it along with the rest of our lineup of games and updates coming this year and beyond.”
“Explore Eora, a mysterious world first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity games,” the game’s description reads. “You’ll make your way on a perilous adventure through the diverse biomes of the Living Lands. Take on dangerous enemies with your sword and spell-casting abilities, and prepare to make important choices with hefty consequences.”
According to the game’s director, Avowed will take around 13 hours to complete if players only tackle the main story, and around 26 hours for completionists.
Avowed is scheduled to be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S on February 18, 2025. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.
