Bioware plans to reveal Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s release date this month.
They surprisingly shared this as a throwaway comment in their blog post about their appearance in this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. They posted this in the last day of July, and this is what they said:
“We’ll have more to share next month – including a new roadmap, more looks at the game, and our official release date (!) – so don’t forget to follow our BioWare and Dragon Age social channels.”
Bioware already said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would be releasing this year, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Steam. Surprisingly, Bioware got the OK from their parent company EA to produce the Steam port in such a way that it will be fully playable on the Steam Deck.
With the clock now running down for the year end, it’s certainly much easier to speculate on when Dragon Age: The Veilguard will actually land.
While this year has not been as stuffed with games as 2023, there are still a ton of games that have been lined up to land in the latter half of the year. We can see several titles that would clearly take attention away as direct competition, even if they’re PC ports. For example, God of War Ragnarok is scheduled for September 19 on PC.
Avowed would clearly be competition for Bioware, and it’s possible that they are capitalizing on the apparent accidental reveal that Obsidian’s Xbox exclusive is coming in November 12. But rather than run against them directly, Bioware may choose to steer clear, and give Xbox owners time to appreciate both games as they come out.
Other major releases that Bioware would have to be wary of include Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, New World Aeternum, and of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
When game companies release their major releases at the same time, it’s usually because other extenuating circumstances, such as getting a game in to make money in a specific quarter, come into play.
If we assume, then, that EA will want to have one hit for the last two quarters of 2024, EA Sports FC 25 is arriving on September 27. So Dragon Age: The Veilguard may come after that game, and that will make it a Q4 release.
Bioware may have decided to make Dragon Age: The Veilguard a November release, to get copies in stores in time for the Thanksgiving – Black Friday – Cyber Monday sale season. They could bump into Assassin’s Creed Shadows, or not, since there’s a lot of days they can get in before that period at the tail end of November.
Whatever month or date they pick, BIoware has had fans waiting for over a decade for the next Dragon Age. We’re sure all the fans are eager to finally see what they have had cooking this entire time.
