The Promising New Military Shooter, Delta Force Hawk Ops, Is Delaying Its PC Alpha Test

July 17, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Delta Force: Hawk Ops really could be the next military shooter to hit it big.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops’s game director Shadow Guo  has shared a new update on the game’s first PC Alpha Test.

Before we move forward with this news, though, you may be wondering, what is Delta Force: Hawk Ops? Some of you may remember the Delta Force franchise, a series of tactical shooters developed by Novalogic in the 2000s.

A particularly significant game in that franchise was Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. It shares the name of the Oscar winning 2001 film because both are based on the same real life event; the Black Hawk Down Incident, also known as the Battle of Mogadishu.

At the time, Novalogic was certainly one of the cutting edge developers in the tactical shooter genre. However, the franchise would go dormant for over a decade, and even after THQ Nordic bought out Novalogic’s assets in 2020.

Finally, Tencent revealed that they had acquired the Delta Force franchise last year, and would restart it with Delta Force: Hawk Ops. This new game’s single player campaign will be a modern remake of Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, but it’s the game’s multiplayer that has garnered attention.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops is being developed by TiMi Studio Group, and published by Tencent label Level Infinite. TiMi had previously developed mobile shooters Assault Fire and Call of Duty: Mobile, but with Delta Force: Hawk Ops, they are planning a simultaneous release on mobile, PC, and consoles for the first time.

Now that we’re on the same page, we’ll share Shadow Guo’s message to the public below:

“We previously announced that Delta Force: Hawk Ops would launch its first PC Alpha Test on July 18. However, we need more time to deliver a more polished experience for you.

In the spirit of transparent communication, we want to share more details with you. On July 11th, we conducted a pre-alpha technical test, inviting a small group of players to rigorously evaluate the game and our release pipeline.

During this test, we encountered several issues that need to be addressed to ensure you have the best experience possible. These issues include long queuing times for multiplayer modes and localization issues. Our commitment to quality means we need more time to polish the game thoroughly before presenting it to tens of thousands of you in the PC Alpha Test.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops is our passion project, and we have so much game content in store to delight you. For this test, we will have 3 Hazard Operation maps and 2 Havoc Warfare maps. We also have a cast of 6 operators, countless weapons and modifications for you to explore, allowing you to truly express yourself in the game.

The team is very excited – and nervous – to welcome you into the world we’ve created over the past four years, and we really want to ensure you have a great experience.

We will be back with the new date for our PC Alpha Test very soon, and we promise you won’t wait for long. We look forward to seeing many of you having fun in our game. Everyone on the team will be eagerly awaiting your feedback. Until then, take care and stay awesome!”

You can look up YouTube previews of Delta Force: Hawk Ops because TiMi got YouTubers to play in that first external playtest. Impressions seem to be mostly positive, but there’s some concern that TiMi has copied too much from Battlefield 2046.

We think that’s an issue that will be easily remedied in time, and seeing how TiMi seems to be passionate about getting their release right, we’re certain they’ll get these and other concerns addressed. We’re looking forward to seeing how Delta Force: Hawk Ops will turn out, and we think you should keep touch for news on when that PC Alpha Test arrives.
