Three Battlefield Titles Being Delisted on Older Consoles

July 3, 2024 by Carley Garcia

If you’re still playing on PS3 or Xbox 360, it might be time for an upgrade.

Electronic Arts has announced that three Battlefield titles will be delisted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this month. Players on these consoles will no longer be able to purchase Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, or Battlefield Hardline, with all DLC also being delisted. Online services for these titles will end on November 7, but those who own the games can still enjoy single-player content.

“Battlefield 3 will still be available for play on PC,” EA wrote in a statement on X. “Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline will still be available for play on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The announcement today does not affect these titles and platforms.”

Last April, Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 were delisted from digital storefronts. Online services for these titles ended in December.

Last month, a leak posted to Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit pointed towards Battlefield 7 having a single-player campaign after a voice-acting job post for a female special forces operator was revealed. While the job post itself may not mean that a new Battlefield campaign will be featured in the next title in the franchise, many fans hope that the next entry returns to its single-player roots. Battlefield 2042 did away with single-player, but its focus on multiplayer failed to strike a chord with fans. In May 2022, the game failed to appear in EA’s financial report.

Geoff Keighley recently took to X to give an update on the next Battlefield game. “In today’s earnings call, Andrew Wilson says he has been playing the next Battlefield game with the development team and it will be a “tremendous live service,” Keighley wrote.

Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. In April 2022, the game fell below 1,000 concurrent players on Steam for the first time.
