Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Launching September, With New Features And Content

June 14, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Dragami has gone above and beyond to make this rerelease happen.

Dragami Games has officially announced the launch of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It will have a global digital release on September 26, 2024, and physical release on October 2024.

Dragami basically ported the original game to new platforms, and added a host of features. The big one is RePOP mode, which add a colorful pop aesthetic, and also happens to cover up the violent and sexy content. Dragami has added many gameplay improvements, including running Auto-QTEs by default. The Chainsaw Blaster has also been reworked, with auto-lock and auto-fire making it more useful throughout the game.

On the performance end, it will run at 1080p FHD 30 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and can bump up to 4K 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. There will also be shorter load times.

Dragami also boasts of new additions, such as 4 new chainsaws with different effects, 4 new hairstyles, and 30 new costumes. But Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP did not retain the licensed costume DLC, as well as the licensed soundtrack.

In an interview with Gematsu, Dragami CEO and Lollipop Chainsaw creator Yoshimi Yasuda shed light on what happened behind the scenes. Kadokawa Games, the original IP owner, had to pull Lollipop Chainsaw from distribution because their music licenses ran out. However, Yasuda always wanted to bring the franchise back.

To get there, Yasuda patiently set everything in motion to make it possible. He convinced Kadokawa to spin off Dragami Games as an independent company, and also to give them full ownership of the Lollipop Chainsaw IP.

Now, as an independent company, Dragami couldn’t afford to bring all the licenses back. For that reason, they had to make replacement costumes for all the DLC, and they also produced a new soundtrack. All of the new soundtrack and costumers are sound-alikes and look-alikes, so even if it isn’t exactly the same, it should still be a similar experience.

As for the possibility of a sequel, Yasuda had this to say:

“The reason I talked about things from 15 years ago is because I have personally started thinking about the future of Lollipop Chainsaw.

“There is nothing that I can share as of yet, but I hope the time will come when I can.”
