Hidetaka Miyazaki Just Falls Short of Saying He Wants Bloodborne On PC

June 14, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Did Sony really lose the source code for this game?

Hidetaka Miyazaki has spoken on the possibility of a Bloodborne port to PC.

Talking to PC Gamer, Miyazaki made it clear that he’s not at liberty to talk about Bloodborne. The reason he said this, of course, is because FromSoftware developed Bloodborne as an original title for PlayStation. Subsequently, Sony owns the rights to the game, and they can decide what to do with the franchise as a whole.

To make a comparison, Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 were published by Nintendo. For this reason, these Bayonetta games are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. However, Sega still owns Bayonetta as an IP, and they can choose to do what they want with the first Bayonetta game. That’s why they were at liberty to bring Bayonetta to Steam.

However, when asked if he would like to see Bloodborne ported to PC, he had a lot to say. Miyazaki said he knew that his peers in FromSoftware would want to see it happen. He then said this:

“If I say I want one, I’ll get in trouble as well. But it’s nothing I’m opposed to.

Obviously, as one of the creators of Bloodborne, my personal, pure honest opinion is I’d love more players to be able to enjoy it.

Especially as a game that is now coming of age, one of those games of the past that gets lost on older hardware—I think any game like that, it’d be nice to have an opportunity for more players to be able to experience that and relive this relic of the past.

So as far as I’m concerned, that’s definitely not something I’d be opposed to.”

As for now, it still seems unlikely that Bloodborne would go to PC. Sony has not entertained any inquiries about it, and they also have not shown any interest in doing so.

However, it’s also pretty obvious that the stage is set for them to do so. Sony did commission a remake of Demon’s Souls to the PlayStation 5. FromSoftware didn’t have to make this port, as the task went to Bluepoint Games. It was also one of the games made by Japan Studio. So Sony is not above remaking and remastering games with FromSoftware.

Sony, of course, has also been publishing their first party games to PC for a few years now. Given the current market conditions where they don’t make enough money on these games on the PlayStation 5, they may continue this trend in the near future.

The fact that Sony still won’t so much as hint that they are interested in it has fueled speculation that the reason Sony won’t do it is they lost their original builds for the game. We won’t comment on if that’s true or not, but we will point out Sony can absolutely commission a remake from the ground up.

In many cases, such work would not be worthwhile, but of course, Bloodborne is big and popular enough that it would definitely pay off as a PlayStation 5 and PC title. It certainly would not be the only game remade from the ground up without access to original production materials. Maybe Sony might find themselves taking this direction, if the trajectory of their current efforts is any indication.
