Alan Wake 2 Finally Gets A Physical Release – So Of Course There’s A Catch

June 10, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

You will probably want to stick with the Deluxe Edition.

Alan Wake 2 is getting a physical release. Of course, there’s a huge catch to that otherwise overwhelmingly positive news.

The news was originally announced by actor and lead writer Sam Lake in the Summer Games Fest for 2024. As you can expect, that means this is only a limited release, with only Limited Collector’s and Deluxe Editions available.

However, the catch, as we found out on the official Alan Wake Twitter account, is that the Limited Collector’s Edition will be coming from Limited Run Games, a distributor notorious for their poor business practices. As explained in this Time Extension article, many customers have complained of long wait times, poor product quality, and poor customer service from the company.

The huge irony of this, of course, is Limited Run’s business continues to thrive, as many AAA companies choose to distribute with them. They seem to do this as if only to meet some kind of customer obligation or expectation, instead of real full physical release where they take the risks of unsold stock, for the sake of making the game more widely available.

The Deluxe Edition will be available across various retailers, but there will be no ‘vanilla’ physical version of the game. There will also be no PC port, and it’s coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. When you think about it, this is certainly a strange direction for PC games to go in in 2024.

But in a world where even Sony’s single player games require PSN login on PC, which also means Sony will region lock their PC games, PC gaming has just become a platform filled with more roadblocks and little regard for game preservation.

Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition is coming in October 22, 2024, recommended price at $ 79.99, and comes with everything listed below:

  • The base game
  • Digital Deluxe Edition items:
  • Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga
  • Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan
  • Crimson Windbreaker for Saga
  • Celebrity Suit for Alan
  • Lantern Charm for Saga
  • Expansion Pass (includes Night Springs and The Lake House)
  • Reversible cover sleeve with exclusive artwork
  • Alan Wake Remastered Digital Edition (as a code in the box)

Alan Wake 2 Limited Collector’s Edition is coming in December 2024, recommended price at $ 129.99, and comes with everything listed below:

  • The base game
  • Digital Deluxe Edition items:
  • Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga
  • Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan
  • Crimson Windbreaker for Saga
  • Celebrity Suit for Alan
  • Lantern Charm for Saga

  • Reversible cover sleeve with exclusive artwork
  • Alan Wake Remastered Digital Edition (as a code in the box)
