Doom The Dark Ages Announced By Bethesda

June 9, 2024 by Todd Black

Let’s get medieval.

It’s still too early to see if the Xbox Showcase will be the shining light in an already bleak gaming event season. The recent State of Play was basically a dud, and the Summer Game Fest wasn’t that much better. However, there are a few things to be hopeful about with this presentation, and one of the first trailers they showed off was one for Doom The Dark Ages. That’s right, Bethesda is back with another entry in their violent franchise, and this time, they’re taking things to a medieval level in a way that no one likely expected them to push it.

As the trailer immediately notes, this isn’t the Doomslayer you know; this is one that gods used as a “superweapon,” and that’s just the start of how different things are in this game. It’s very interesting to see Doom The Dark Ages go in this direction, but it could be seen as a way to revitalize the franchise in a new direction and give Bethesda some interesting places to take the series going forward should it prove to be a worthy entry.

Not to mention, if they do things in the past like allowing the community to make their own levels, including having access to that dragon and other things that might make this game stand out, then oh boy, this might be a special title indeed.

Sadly, the game comes out in 2025, so you’ll have to wait a bit. But given all that’s shown in that trailer? The waiting might just be worth it this time.
