We’ve covered Multiversus quite a bit on the site, and for good reason. When it first got announced, it felt like it would be another cash grab of a battle title to mimic the success of a certain Nintendo crossover series. However, to its credit, the title from Player First Games brought a lot of wacky and unexpected fun to people when it was released in alpha and beta in 2022. In fact, the game was so popular in the following months that the team started charging microtransactions and such to capitalize on how well the game was doing. But then, it straight-up was pulled back into “development,” and fans have been waiting for its return ever since.
The good news is that Multiversus is coming back on May 28th, and it’ll be free to play for everyone. The other piece of good news is that they’ve done a new launch trailer for the title, and it invokes the fun wackiness of the original announcement trailer.
By that, we mean that you get to see some incredibly unlikely matchups being showcased. For example, how about Jake and Velma taking on Bugs Bunny and The Joker? Or, how about seeing a certain Gremlin taking on The Iron Giant? If that’s not enough, you can check out a fatal 4-way between four versions of Wonder Woman!

Oh, is that still not enough for you? Well, what’s a launch trailer without a tease of who else is coming to the game? At the very end, you’ll see that The Joker is about to get some villainous backup, and you won’t believe who shows up!
Yep, it’s Jason from Friday The 13th and Agent Smith from The Matrix! Who invited them to this party?
Seriously, this is a surprise for multiple reasons. Don’t forget that this is very much a “kids game” in its visuals and gameplay style, and yet they’re bringing in one of the greatest mass murderers, not to mention literal monsters, via Jason Voorhees. Bringing in a Gremlin was one thing, as they had a “nice side” to them overall. But Jason Voorhees? That’s another matter entirely.
As for Agent Smith, that will raise questions about whether “Mr. Anderson” will join him sooner rather than later. This also opens up the floodgates about who else is showing up, as there were other portals next to the two when The Joker called for reinforcements.
Guess we’ll have to see who shows up next!
