Telltale Games has shared an update on The Wolf Among Us 2.
Over the weekend, we reported on images that were shared by Geoff Keighley online. It turns out those images came from Telltale themselves, as they shared them in said update on their official Telltale forums.
Telltale shared this message with those images:
“We’ve been quiet because we’ve been heads down, focusing on the promise of #TWAU2.
While we can’t give a big update yet, here’s a little something for you: In-progress shots from the current build.
The work continues.
The Fabletown gang will be back.
Thanks for being fans.”
As we had also reported on last week, there was a lot of uncertainty on the status of this game since Telltale revealed they had to lay off some of their staff last October. Telltale simply did not give us enough details for us to properly assess how well or poorly the company was going, but with this update, we did get the reassurance that we were looking for.
Of course, as we had also covered already, it seems like a miracle that The Wolf Among Us 2 is still in production at all. So even a small update like this, is already a lot when you look at the bigger picture.
We can certainly talk about how polished these images already look, and you can tell that Telltale curated them to share small hints about how far they are going. They already look like images from a completed game, so they likely are close to or finished at that part of the title’s development.
We should remember that this is a different Telltale, and because of their secrecy, we don’t really know if they got to reuse assets from the prior game. But it does look like the graphics are going to look great on current generation consoles, perhaps because those assets have been upgraded.
One screenshot shows what looks like contextual menus, and it certainly looks like The Wolf Among Us of old. Finally, there’s a picture of Bigby in focus at the background, speaking to something or someone that’s so close that they or it are out of focus. That certainly looks like a tease for that character, but we’ll leave it to hardcore Fables fans to speculate on it.
Funnily enough, this update also still doesn’t address the apparent issue between Fables creator Bill Willingham and DC Comics. But perhaps DC’s contract with the old Telltale was carried over to the new Telltale, and Telltale is just on business as usual. But if Telltale does manage to get The Wolf Among Us 2 and it’s a huge hit, they may take advantage of the apparent public domain status of the IP.
