When fans uncovered a trademark filing for a game called Sleeping Dogs late last month, we guessed that another Kane and Lynch game was on the way. Turns our prognostication skills are a little on the rusty side, as Square Enix has revealed that Sleeping Dogs is in fact the new title for United Front's publisher-hopping True Crime: Hong Kong.
By the sounds of things, not much has changed in the rebranding. You'll still play as an undercover cop working to take down the Hong Kong Triads from the inside, and United Front is still emphasizing the game's fluid blend of driving, shooting, and melee gameplay, just as they've done since the E3 2010 gameplay demos.
In fact, just about the only thing that's new apart from the name is the amazing live action announcement trailer, which features three minutes of fairly brutal martial arts action.
Square Enix says Sleeping Dogs will be out in the latter half of this year on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
