Rumor: Monster Hunter Wilds Is Fully Open World, Releasing Q1 2025

March 28, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

It’s described as the biggest game Capcom has ever attempted.

We have new rumors about Monster Hunter Wilds that is just going to raise expectations through the roof.

As shared on reddit by IcePopsicleDragon, DuskGolem has shared some new details over at their private Discord. We’ll transcribe his messages below.

“I’m currently hearing a lot of things about Wilds from a lot of different places. I don’t feel like sharing anything major yet (dw, I KNOW major things), but it seems Capcom is going all out on this one, by far the biggest game they ever attempted.

6 years, yes

They have been working on it since early 2019, in some capacity

World director had complete freedom, pretty much no questions asked.

A lot of the scrapped ideas from World are here, they brought back the big Godzilla monster too

Yes it’s fully open world. That was their idea from day one apparently, the entire game revolves around it, from story to endgame.

My main source is not a MH expert, but even they could tell this is FAR more experimenting than World or Rise. It could be a risk, but feedback is stellar so far

Release window is Q1 2025, no problem in development so far

They are banking on this to carry the whole fiscal year, I don’t think even GTA6 would make them delay it.”

So that’s a lot to take in for this next Monster Hunter title. As we also already know, this is being planned as a current generation title like Monster Hunter World. While Capcom has done good business making Monster Hunter games for Nintendo’s platforms as well, Monster Hunter World is the most successful title in the franchise’s history, by a wide margin.

That’s because Capcom pushed production values on the title to a level higher than any of their other games, and also pushed forward the game’s fundamental design, also further than any previous games.

For those wondering, the ‘Godzilla’ monster is Zorah Magdaros. Magdaros doesn’t really look like Godzilla, but Dusk Golem made the comparison because this Elder Dragon is larger than any of the other monsters in the franchise. In fact, taking on the Zorah Magdaros quest means visiting the dragon itself as its own location, a monster the size of a mountain.

So, imagine a game which has a monster at that scale, and that game has also been designed to be a gigantic open world. That’s quite a large scale project, something we haven’t seen before. If Dusk Golem’s information is correct, this game will be quite the sight to behold.

Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Steam.
