Shadows of the Damned Remake New Title, Playable at PAX East

March 14, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Fans can play the upgraded title for the first time at PAX East 2024.

Released in 2011, Shadows of the Damned remains one of the most beloved third-person shooters from the 2010s. Produced by Shinji Mikami, the director of the first Resident Evil and Dino Crisis games, and written by Suda51, the brain behind No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw, the action-adventure game has a signature style that continues to impress gamers to this day.

A remaster was announced in June 2023, but not many details were revealed. Today, the upcoming game’s title was announced as Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered, and a brief trailer was posted to YouTube.

Suda51, the CEO of Grasshopper, will be attending PAX 2024 in Boston, where fans can try the game out for the very first time. PAX 2024 will be held from March 21 until March 24.

Additionally, Suda51 will be challenging visitors to blackjack, and those able to beat him will win an autographed set of Shadows of the Damned coasters. A quiz about the title will also take place at the event, with six winners taking home a custom ring.

In the game, Mexican demon hunter Garcia Hotspur visits the City of the Damned to fight against the forces of evil to save his girlfriend Paula after she’s captured by Fleming, the Lord of Demons. The title was influenced largely by the UK punk rock band The Damned, who also donated some music to the original game.

The original Shadows of the Damned was released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered is due to release later this year, though no release date or platforms have been announced.
