Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War Will Reportedly Be Open World

February 5, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Call of Duty drifting away from linear gameplay experiences?

There are plenty of fans out there who are eager to dive into the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise. We’re still waiting on the grand reveal of the next game installment, but already there is a new report to help indicate where this next installment will take players. In particular, we might be getting a completely different experience. Today, a new report suggests that we might soon see the games drop the linear gameplay experience and instead focus on an open-world aspect, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War being the first of these games to land into the marketplace.

A new report from Insider Gaming has claimed that they have learned Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War was built from the ground up to be an open-world experience. An example of what players could expect from this game is similar to the Far Cry franchise. Of course, this would likely mean having large distances to travel and multiple quests to take on. That should also mean interesting means of traveling around the map, whether that’s ground vehicles or even taking flight through something like a helicopter. But we’ll have to wait and see if there’s anything here to help players move around the map.

Likewise, it’s noted that some linear missions will still be integrated into the game. Still, that report also claims this is the direction that Call of Duty will be moving towards with the start of this Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War. Depending on the reception of these upcoming games, it could further encourage an open-world experience, or if the franchise will start going back to its standard linear gameplay, the franchise is known to deliver. With this all said, even more Call of Duty reports are surfacing online.

If you didn’t catch the earlier reports, it seems that Call of Duty could actually avoid dropping on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. After Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, there was plenty of anticipation that Call of Duty would start landing on Xbox Game Pass. So far, no new additions have been made to the subscription service from the Activision Blizzard catalog. But if this new report proves to be true, we might see this series continue to land into the marketplace as a premium title to purchase rather than being bundled with the Xbox subscription service.
