Destiny fans may have discovered that the next major expansion for the game will be released on September 20th.
The recent April update added a new piece of lore to the game, which is hidden inside a Dead Ghost in the Prison of Elders.
Finding the item by chance seems unlikely, especially as a full walkthrough on how to find it was posted on Reddit just 16 minutes after the update went live. Rezyl Azzir, the user who posted the walkthrough, managed to download the update, complete a full run through of the Prison of Elders, discover a hidden object, and post a guide to finding it – all in 16 minutes.
The community was somewhat skeptical, to say the least, but then other players also found the collectible in the place Azzir mentioned. The lore contained within detailed a characters called, wait for it, Rezyl Azzir, and included a short story detailing his life during the founding of the Last City.
Azzir’s account on Reddit and the walkthrough have both been deleted.
Some users were able to catch a Latin message posted by Azzir shortly before the account went dark. The message reads:
“Vegisima die mensis noni. ILLUD est venturus. Per Audacia ad astra.”
Translated, that means:
“The twentieth day of the ninth month. IT is coming. Forward, to the stars.”
Bungie has previously confirmed that Destiny’s next expansion is indeed coming in September, following the base game in 2014 and The Taken King last year.
During their latest weekly blog update, community manager Deej wrote, “The next point on the horizon is an update we’re cooking up for the Fall. I’ve seen it. I’m excited about it. I will say no more… For now.
“Hopefully, the ramp up to the April Update served up some proof that we love speaking at length about new Destiny content, once it arrives at its final form. Later on this summer, we’ll show you the scope, scale, and flavour for the next challenge you’ll face.”
The Cabal is the only faction that hasn’t been at the center of an expansion to date, though they did fight the Taken more heavily than the Hive or the Fallen. Bungie’s original DLC plan called for a Cabal-focused DLC called Forge of the Gods and a new area of Mars – the heart of the Cabal Empire in the solar system – was originally due for release in The Taken King. During that expansion, a distress signal is sent to the Cabal high command somewhere outside our terrestrial space. This all suggests the Cabal will be the main enemies in the new expansion.
