Milhouse, Mary and Joseph. 4chan has come together to hold its own video game awards. This is not a drill. I repeat: this is not a drill.
When the 2011 Spike VGAs rolled around, 4chan’s video game board, /v/, was less than impressed with the event presented before them – I know, what a shock, right? Instead of crying about it into the void, however, /v/ decided that with ‘no budget, no skill and no hope that it would get anywhere,’ they could still do better than the Spike VGAs.
And so, The /v/GAs, otherwise known as the Vidya Gaem Awards, materialised. The community effort hopes to recognise the best and worst of the gaming world, and given that it’s a 4chan project… well, I’ll let you make your own comparison to the Spike VGAs.
What’s really interesting about the /v/GAs, however, is the categories. With categories such as the "My Eyes are Bleeding" Award for worst graphics and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Award for least convincing voice acting, it looks like it could be a giggle at the very least. The /v/GAs have also extended their reach beyond that of the games themselves and into the wider industry, with awards such as the Teabagging Award for worst video game related event, the Karl Marx Award for most capitalistic publisher and the VY Canis Majoris Award for fattest developer – which Gabe Newell has been nominated for seven times. Interesting.
My money’s on the Sonic Fanbase for the Reddit Award, just so you know.
