Gears fans have been waiting a good little while now for what the next installment will bring. It’s been a bit of a long gap now, but every once in a while, we do hear some news in relation to Gears. One individual who does reach out regarding the franchise is a former designer who was heavily involved in creating Gears when it was first released. If you’re familiar with the franchise, you know Cliff Bleszinski. While Cliff hasn’t worked on the Gears franchise since 2011, when Gears of War 3 launched, there is still some interest in returning to the franchise and helping The Coalition deliver their next installment.
Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that Cliff Bleszinski has released a statement on their official X social media account. You can find the entire statement within the post embedded below. But overall, the focus is ensuring followers that Cliff is still very much interested in keeping Gears in the limelight. They have contacted Microsoft and The Coalition to alert them of his interest in being brought in simply as a consultant. Cliff even went on to say that he hasn’t heard back from anyone on the matter and stated that it would have been smart to hire him as a consultant for the PR standpoint alone.
This is far from the only time Cliff has mentioned their interest in going back to consult on Gears. However, it looks like Cliff is ready to move on this time. Of course, I’m sure if the call does come to bring Cliff back on to help steer Gears that would appeal to fans, he would be ready to assist. We haven’t seen him really in the video game industry in quite a while. While 2011 was his last time with the Gears video game franchise, there was an attempt to bring out a new gaming studio called Boss Key Productions.
Unfortunately, the studio didn’t last, and it ended up shutting down shortly after its first release, LawBreakers. Since then, Cliff has moved into new ventures, which he mentions in their statement. Some of their latest works include restaurants, broadway, comics, and a memoir. Again, when it comes to the Gears franchise, we’re still left waiting on some official announcement. It was last year that we reported The Coalition having an outline for a Gears 6 installment, but that might have since been scrapped. So again, we’re left waiting to hear what’s next and if the recent mass layoffs from Microsoft’s gaming division have affected any potential plans for the next Gears release.
