Well, as an evil man once said, IT HAS BEGUN!!!! We’re speaking of the “great gaming release schedule of January/February 2024!” Because in the span of just about six weeks, if not a little less, there are no fewer than six big AAA titles coming out, and some of them are out right now! One of the biggest ones that many were excited about is Tekken 8. The latest entry in the beloved fighting game genre has been building up hype for a while, and early thoughts from critics indicated that the game would be everything fans hoped it would be and more.
But…just like no battle plan survives contact with the enemy, no launch survives contact with players more times than not. Because not even 24 hours into this game’s launch, Tekken 8 already has problems on consoles. Specifically, on PS5, gamers are having issues trying to get online, and thus be ranked via the various competition modes. Tech4Gamers detailed this and stated that PC users seem to be okay currently with the crashes. As in, it’s not happening for them, but it is happening frequently with PS5 users, and they went to social media to talk about it and see how widespread it was. The answer appears to be that it’s pretty bad for console users.
It was so bad that one of the game’s creators, the one and only Harada, went online to comment about the launch woes and that Bandai Namco was currently working on a way to fix them.
According to some PS5 users, one way to limit the crashes that are going on within the game is to turn off crossplay. Whether that helps everyone is up in the air, but it has seemed to help certain games, so if you’re having issues with the online play on PS5, you might want to try it out.
It’s sad to see such a hyped title have these kinds of issues right out of the gate. But that’s the issue you potentially will have if you have multiple systems online and cannot thoroughly test them with large numbers of gamers. One of the ironies of this was that during the public beta for the game, the PC had online issues while the console versions weren’t causing problems.
We fully expect Bandai Namco to fix this issue, especially since this is an important title for them, so stay tuned, and hopefully, you’ll be punching out others soon enough.
