The world that inhabits the creatures we call Pokemon is one of the more unique places you’ll ever find, and for multiple reasons. The biggest one is that if you were to be in that world, you’d think it’s a “wonderful place” full of creatures that you could catch, train, befriend, and so on. That there was “no true danger” to be had outside of ticking off the Pokemon. But as trainers have learned over the years, sometimes the Pokemon you see are truly terrifying in their origins, and the last legendary from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has come to prove that.
Last week, the epilogue quest for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet dropped. If you beat the two-part DLC, “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero,” you’d get the chance to find the Pokemon known as Pecharunt. It had a hand in the story of Ogerpon from “The Teal Mask,” yet its story wasn’t fully known. Well, The Pokemon Company decided to fix that today, and oh, the story they were willing to tell.
According to them, Pecharunt didn’t have a bad start to life. From within its shell, it was found by an elderly couple, one who never had children. So when they found Pecharunt, they were so happy that they adopted it as their own child. A happy way to end the story, right? Except, that’s just the beginning of the tale. As time passed, Pecharunt used the Mochi it could create to warp the couple’s minds so they would adore it even more! But this led to them becoming greedy and forcing the Pokemon to get them everything they desired.
That included a certain quartet of masks that you might be familiar with. Using its Mochi, Pecharunt “tamed” three “retainers:” The Loyal Three. With these three under its command, they went to Kitakami and eventually found Ogerpon, its master, and the masks. But when they tried to steal the masks, Ogerpon’s master got in the way, so they “dispatched” him. Enraged, Ogerpon struck them all down, and Pecharunt was forced to return to its shell and remain there until it was awakened once more.
So, as you can see, this Pokemon is much more than meets the eye, and now, we know the full story behind the legend of Kitakami and the Pokemon that were a part of it. You can start the quest now by beating the DLC and using the Mystery Gift to get the Mythical Pecha Berry!
