Bethesda recently launched its latest RPG title into the marketplace this past year. After hyping up the game for a few years, fans can freely explore Starfield’s various star systems. It’s another thrilling RPG if you enjoy the style of gameplay Bethesda is known for. However, being such a massive game, the studio could go to plenty of areas with upcoming expansions. On the flip side, there are also plenty of areas that were dialed back or entirely cut. We might not know everything that was planned, but a new early concept of the Starfield map system seemed to have hit the web.
Thanks to a report from Gamesradar, we’re finding out that a Reddit user posted an early iteration of the starmap. This image was discovered through some data files, and now fans are getting a small look at the early version Bethesda was working on. Comments quickly point towards some of the features already mentioned to have been scrapped. So, this version of the map might have been related to when certain elements were still established in the game. For instance, there’s mention of hull damage being taken on by solar radiation.
If you recall, Todd Howard did mention in the past that there were areas of the game that were dialed back. For instance, more planetary issues could come up which required specific suits to be equipped. But that was nerfed, and it might not make it back officially. Instead, some of these attributes of the game could eventually see a return through a mod when support comes out later this year.
In other points of the map system, we can see how fuel consumption is mentioned, which might have made it necessary for players to account for how much fuel their ship has available. There’s even an economy tab, so it seems that we might have initially had more focus on trading or seeking out the best deal for your goods. Again, this map could be completely fake, but at the very least, it does have some players talking about what areas they wouldn’t mind seeing restored and implemented back into the game.
At any rate, players interested in Starfield can pick up a copy of the game today. This RPG is available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and through the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. If you’re looking for a bit more insight, we have a Before You Buy video coverage that can be viewed below.
