Sea of Thieves Could Also Be Coming To Rival Platforms

January 8, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Is Xbox bringing Sea of Thieves to competitor platforms?

There is no shortage of rumors and speculation in the video game industry. We’ve seen all sorts of rumors flood the web that never come to fruition. But some rumors circulate online and get commented on by reliable industry insiders. Earlier today, we reported how Hi-Fi Rush might come to other platforms outside of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, it looks like there might be some other titles that could see a release alongside other consoles.

Thanks to X user The Red Dragon, we’re finding a snippet from Jeff Grubb’s podcast. Jeff has been reliable on a variety of reports for the game industry. During a podcast episode, Jeff spoke about the recent rumors that were popping up for Microsoft bringing more Xbox games to competitor platforms. According to Jeff, one game that he’s heard in the past of potentially coming to the likes of other platforms is Rare’s Sea of Thieves.

“We should expect more of this”

Sea of Thieves has been popular and has received plenty of support. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that we saw developers add the ability to enjoy private sessions. So, whether you’re looking to enjoy a game with friends or play the title as a solo experience, you can now do so. But as it stands, the Sea of Thieves game is only available for the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. If these rumors prove to be true, we could see Sea of Thieves land on platforms like Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 5.

Again, these are just rumors, so we have nothing official on the matter. But if Sea of Thieves does come to competitor platforms, that might be a brutal blow for Ubisoft as they prepare to release their Skull and Bones video game. At any rate, it might leave some players wondering what this could mean for more of Microsoft’s first-party games. Right now, all we can do is wait and see what Microsoft ends up bringing out this year, whether that’s keeping their first-party games on their platforms or if they will be opening up the idea of allowing more of their games to land on competitor consoles.

If you’re unfamiliar with Sea of Thieves, the game was initially released in 2018. Players are getting a more wacky action-adventure experience as they step into the role of a pirate. With players able to join together, you and your mates can board a ship and take to the open in search of treasure. But you’ll want to be careful as you never know what pirate crews you might cross.
