Activision will be releasing a new Ghostbusters game this July, the publisher confirmed today.
USA Today has posted an exclusive trailer revealing that the game will be released on July 12th, just a few days before the new movie arrives in cinemas. From the trailer, it looks to be a rather low-key affair that doesn’t quite match up to the 2009 title featuring the original cast. A mobile version is also in development.
The game won’t feature the new cast either, with the reveal trailer suggesting a high school setting with a team of unknown busters. Isometric gameplay is also featured in the video and it seems to evoke the mediocre Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime made by Behaviour Interactive. Four characters are included in the game and they may all be playable in a co-op setting.
You can view the trailer on USA Today’s website.
A developer for the game has not yet been confirmed and the game doesn’t appear to feature any subtitle.
News of the title first emerged in January, when Mark Caplan, senior vice president of Sony’s Global Consumer Products, spoke to Retail Merchandiser about the enthusiasm surrounding the franchise since the 2009 game and subsequent toy line.
Ghostbusters is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Ghostbusters movie launches on July 15th and features an all new cast.
Hopefully, this game delivers but the lack of a stated developer or any logo is rather concerning. As Caplan noted in January, it seems the Ghostbusters game is being developed to coincide with the movie’s release.
