Kaz Hirai won’t be Sony's new CEO until April 1 of this year, but that didn’t stop him from already being in the spotlight.
According to Mantanweb, during Sony's quarterly earnings briefing, Hirai stated that Sony's intention is to claim the “number one position in digital imaging and games.”
Hirai listed digital imaging, games, and mobile as the areas that Sony hopes to improve as core businesses. As CEO, he plans to use profits from PS3, PSP, and PS Vita sales as investment into the company's mobile business.
In the third quarter of 2011, which spans from October 1 through December 31, Sony reported a net loss of $2,038 million on its overall sales of sales of $23.37 billion.
The disappointing quarter saw sales of 6.5 million for PS3 systems, bringing the console’s over sales to 62 million, and 2.4 million for PSP systems, which brings the system to close behind the PS3 with 61.3 million units life to date.
