Japanese Sales Figures: Vita Makes Gains, But Only Slightly

3DS still dominates hardware, while Armored Core V and Resident Evil Revelations took the top of the software charts.

Hell may have just gotten a little icier, as the latest batch of Media Create sales figures bring some good news for Sony's struggling PlayStation Vita.

Not only were Japanese Vita sales up nearly 25% during the week of January 23-29, the system also managed to achieve two important milestones for the first time since launch: outselling the PSP, and having a game make the top 20. That game was Tales of Innocence R, which debuted in the number 3 slot behind fellow newcomers Armored Core V and Resident Evil Revelations.

Even still, the 3DS remains squarely at the top of the heap, moving almost four times as much as its closest competitor and dominating the software charts with a whopping seven titles in the top 20.

Here are the weekly hardware sales figures, with the previous week's sales in parentheses:

1. 3DS: 84,789 (80,960)
2. PS3: 22,924 (21,155)
3. PSV: 18,942 (15,219)
4. PSP: 16,008 (17,181)
5. Wii: 10,396 (10,173)
6. X360: 1,235 (1,588)
7. DSi LL: 1,180 (1,200)
8. DSi: 738 (822)
9. PS2: 713 (903)

And here are the top 20 software titles from last week, with life to date sales in parentheses:

1. Armored Core V (PS3, From Software): 163,906 (New)
2. Resident Evil Revelations (3DS, Capcom): 146,559 (New)
3. Tales of Innocence R (PSV, Namco Banda): 54,853 (New)
4. Mario Kart 7 (3DS, Nintendo): 29,230 (1,433,958)
5. Monster Hunter 3G (3DS, Capcom): 27,032 (1,186,898)
6. Armored Core V (360, From Software): 24,719 (New)
7. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, Nintendo): 23,003 (1,288,495)
