Remedy has shared new descriptions for Alan Wake 2’s coming DLC on their FAQ.
There will be two expansions, both paid DLC, that will each tell new stories in this world. As is indicated here, these expansions will also let us play as Alan and Saga. Apparently, on top of that, a few other characters will also be playable as well.
The descriptions from the FAQ follow below:
“Expansion 1 – Night Springs
Visions and dreams. Fiction is written and coming true. Fiction collapses and remains just words on a page. These are those stories… in Night Springs.
Play as several familiar characters from the world of Alan Wake and experience the unexplainable in multiple self-contained episodes of Night Springs, a fictional tv-show set in the world of Alan Wake.
Expansion 2 – The Lake House
The Lake House is a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong.
Explore the Lake House and embark on two separate adventures as the realities of Saga Anderson and Alan Wake collide again.”
Remedy also promises there will be new gameplay for both expansions, suggesting that this is about more than just more story to tell. Given that Remedy made the bold decision to switch genres to survival horror, maybe one or both of these are a throwback to classic Alan Wake style gameplay.
And then there’s also the case of the spinoff, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. That game seems to be framed very similarly to one of these expansions. In Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Alan finds himself caught up in a TV show where he fights an evil doppleganger version of himself in creating and changing reality. Of course, this one was originally rumored to be the Alan Wake 2 itself, until Remedy clarified it would be a spinoff. As it turns out, Remedy’s real plans for Alan Wake 2 would be far bigger than we could imagine then.
Alan Wake 2 has already joined the happy crowd of most highly rated games of 2023. With many 10/10 scores coming from multiple review outlets, it stands at a MetaCritic of 88 based on 37 reviews. It’s all looking good in light of its upcoming release.
Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 27, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Epic Games Store. As of this writing, the game is not scheduled to be released on Steam. It will also only be available as a digital download.
