A new set of rumors have come up regarding Nintendo Switch 2.
For these rumors we are looking to Connor / OreXda, as both a source who has access to information around the chip manufacturers, and also as a Korean who can relay rumors from other Koreans who don’t speak English.
Connor recently translated a new set of rumors from For_Ataraxia. Connor describes For_Ataraxia as a normal Twitter user, not a leaker. But For_Ataraxia has a record of predicting products from Samsung. This is the first time For_Ataraxia is sharing rumors about Nintendo.
To quote Connor’s tweets:
“Nintendo
Next-generation switches in development
Traditional Switch Series chip integration, focused on console improvement
Same display size but reduced display weight”
Connor followed up with this tweet translation:
“Nintendo
Switch The next model is Nintendo Super Play (code name)
Play with a game chip like a switch
It’s the same button structure as Super Famicom
Keep the existing concept that can be played outside the house, but don’t use a dock like a switch”
Now, you may be wondering if there’s anything else in this growing library of unconfirmed rumors that would possibly support these claims. Well, we just happen to have reported on a patent that Nintendo themselves filed over a week ago. This patent is for a single screen console, with only one left joystick, and a set of four face buttons on the right side. This certainly sounds like an incomplete button setup to play modern games, but it fits For_Ataraxia’s rumor quite well.
Now, it needs to be said, that Connor emerged earlier this year because they had what they believed were early rumors about the Switch 2. It later came to light that they do seem to have a source among Nintendo’s manufacturers, and they only had the bad luck to run into outdated information. The rumor is that Nintendo originally planned to use Nvidia’s T239 chip (Connor’s rumor), but then switched over to the T254, which they did now know about.
Connor perhaps has also realized that they do have some sort of connection to Nintendo information, but they aren’t able to vet themselves what is reliable. So right now Connor is just sharing what they can to see if anything sticks.
Speaking of which, Connor shared another rumor, this time translated from a Korean site called mt.co.kr. We’ll just share their translation below:
“Nintendo Switch 2 could be released next year, based on supplier’s plans
A major supplier of components for the Nintendo Switch, Finematek, is expanding its production of foldable hinges and electric vehicle module housings. This suggests that a global game company may be planning to release a portable foldable game console next year, and that the Nintendo Switch 2 may have a larger battery and better performance than its predecessor.
Of course, Nintendo has not yet announced the Switch 2, but Finematek’s growth plans are a sign that it is confident in the future of the console. Some analysts believe that the Switch 2 could be released in early 2024, while others believe it could be released in the second half of the year.
If the Switch 2 is released in early 2024, Nintendo is likely to release new games in the second half of 2023 to generate excitement among consumers. It is also possible that Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 at the E3 game show in spring 2024.”
Obviously these rumors are all very different, but given that there’s a connection with Nintendo manufacturing in Korea, there’s a good chance that someone here is on the mark about the Switch 2. We can’t vouch for any of these rumors either, but it’s interesting to ponder what’s possible in Nintendo’s future.
