One of the unique things about the gaming industry is that fans will get excited about anything they feel will lead to an announcement for a video game they’re excited about. Sometimes, they’ll simply hope and pray for an announcement to be made or a sequel title to come for a game they liked and other times, they’ll scour the internet for any proof that something might be coming soon. In the case of GTA 6, fans are looking for anything and everything to determine when Rockstar Games might be making an official announcement. That brings us to the “update” on their website.
To be clear, we KNOW that GTA 6 is in development. You might remember that massive leak that happened, which showed VERY EARLY looks and gameplay in the title. It was one of the biggest leaks in modern gaming history and got plenty of people talking. But even with that, Rockstar Games was rather “mum” about what it all meant and when they’d announce the new game.
However, fans have noted that the Rockstar Games website has been updated with an unlisted/unpublished video tagged under their site’s “trailers” and “official gameplay” sections. Now, before anyone starts acting out and screaming that an announcement will come soon, the video itself was not stated to be tied to the upcoming game. On Twitter, one person posted the “information” and noted that it technically doesn’t mean anything:
After all, Rockstar Games has other things happening outside of their crime IP, so the video could very easily be about those games and not this one. It hurts to say, but it is true.
Another thing that must be factored into this is that Rockstar Games isn’t going to drop any significant info about the title until they know it’s not just ready but closer to the game’s release window. After all, they’re not interested in making the same mistakes that Bethesda did with one of its IPs.
Another thing to note is that Rockstar Games knows they have to top what they did in the last entry. After all, not only did it get rave reviews and sales, but it was so consistently updated with content thanks to its online portion that people continued to play it ten years after its release! That was another reason Rockstar Games did not immediately jump into the next entry, as they were still making money for the older one.
So until something definitive is stated, don’t believe everything you see.
