For better or worse, we’ll have to wait to find out, there are multiple Marvel Comics-themed games in the works by various publishers. One of which is the EA Motive Iron Man, which has been confirmed for a while. Little is known about the game at present outside of the dev team, and the fact that it will be running on Unreal Engine 5, ensuring the game looks very good. However, there has been plenty of speculation on what the game could be and what elements it might partake in. To that end, a new job listing for EA Motive points to certain possibilities.
Specifically, EA Motive is looking for a Senior System Designer, and they asked that the person applying not just have lots of experience in game development but also knowledge of trends in recent “action and RPG titles.”
While that may not sound like much, it does give hope that things will be more than a simple “shooter” adventure like other attempts with Iron Man have done. After all, while Tony Stark is known for his repulsor blasts, the “Unibeam,” and other smaller weapons to help deal with threats big and small, the big thing that he specializes in is versatility. He often makes legions of suits to handle the needs of a single mission or a situation that could pop up in the future.
If that were applied to the game, it could allow players to modify their armor to suit their personal playstyle. For example, they could build up “armor points” over the course of missions and then dedicate them to certain functions of the suit, like having stronger armor plating, doing more damage with their blasts, having better scanners to detect enemies, etc.
It could also unlock new abilities for Tony Stark to use while in the armor, such as at the aforementioned unibeam from a certain fighting game franchise.
Past titles with the Armored Avenger have given a more “bare bones” approach to what he can do, and part of that was because of the game’s mechanics and the need for certain other things over customization. But since this will be Stark’s game, there’s no reason to hold back when it’s clear you can push things to the limit and beyond.
Obviously, all of this is speculation for now, and even if these elements are included, it doesn’t confirm that the game will be good. But it’s not a bad thing to hope for the best.
