If you’re interested in souls-like gameplay experiences, you might have had Lords of the Fallen on your radar for a good while. This game was first unveiled to the public during Gamescom 2022, where players would again get another helping of this franchise. If you don’t recall, Lords of the Fallen is a bit of a sequel to another game launched in 2014 with the same name. However, you don’t necessarily have to go back and play through the 2014 release in order to enjoy this game installment.
The upcoming RPG is set a thousand years after the original game’s events, so any references to the past might be brief, but again, it looks like you’ll be just fine with going through the game as a standalone experience. Reviews are starting to come in for the upcoming game, and it’s been painting a bit of an favorable score right now. According to Metacritic, you can find an 76 rating right now. With that said, we might see that rise or lower after more reviews get posted by critics. You can view all the critic reviews posted on Metacritic on the website, but we’ll include some of the scores from various media outlets below.

Regarding the narrative, the game is set in an interconnected world between two planes. You have the world of the living and the world of the dead. Ages ago, the demon lord Adyr managed to break through to the living realm but was defeated, sending him to the world of the fallen. However, now Adyr has begun a new attempt to overtake the world of the living, which kicks off your next battle to fight off Adyr once again. You’ll be able to transfer yourself to both the land of the living and the dead as you seek a means to stop the tyrannical demon lord.
As mentioned, this is a souls-like gameplay experience. So you’ll have to be careful in how you go about each battle. Watch your opponent, study their attacks, and determine the right time to swing your sword in a fluid counter. Players can pick up a copy of the game on October 13, 2023. When the game does launch, you’ll find it available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X/S platforms. In the meantime, check out a trailer for the game below.
