Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Will Automatically Disable Mods

September 25, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Developers explain why your mods are being disabled.

Cyberpunk 2077 fans are gearing up to start the significant expansion for the game Phantom Liberty. This title launched in a disastrous state. However, CD Projekt Red worked hard to turn things around. As a result, this likely prompted several features and expansions to be scrapped. Fortunately, when the developers turned things around for Cyberpunk 2077, it also came with enough time to warrant the arrival of one expansion. Before you dive into Phantom Liberty and see just what has been added to Night City, it’s worth noting that all of your mods active in the game will be turned off.

The Phantom Liberty expansion will be a big one for Cyberpunk 2077 fans. This adds a slew of new content and even a brand-new area. So, to ensure that your game launches and performs as intended, CD Projekt Red is making the move to turn off mods. Taking up to their official X account, CD Projekt Red developers are alerting their followers that Phantom Liberty will automatically disable all the mods you have within the game. This is to ensure that nothing featured will mess up any of the new content being added. While the mods can be enabled, the developers are encouraging you to hold off.

Attention all Steam and Epic players!

We wanted to let you know that mods will be automatically disabled for the launch of #PhantomLiberty. This is to prevent issues with the game that are caused by mods before they receive their update from the modding community. We want to…

Instead, they are prompting fans to hold until the modding community for your mods can confirm that they are working as intended. There could very well be some mods that will need some tweaks and adjustments before it’s ready for the public to use once again. Hopefully, that will be adjusted by the time you get through Phantom Liberty. If you’re listening to developers, it might take you a while before you’re done with the game and its expansion.

Again, if you recall, CD Projekt Red is encouraging players to start a new save with Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update. Because of the new update and content, several revamps and adjustments were made to the game. So, to get a handle on the new systems and mechanics, it’s best to restart the gameplay experience altogether. Another point worth making is that if you haven’t been playing Cyberpunk 2077 recently and plan to jump into the mix with Phantom Liberty, it’s worth making note you’ll need the 2.0 update as well.

Unfortunately, not everyone will get to enjoy the new expansion and update. While Cyberpunk 2077 launched on last-generation hardware, this new content is only released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. In the meantime, you can check out the official launch trailer for Phantom Liberty in the video we have embedded below.
