Earlier this year, a report from Insider Gaming stated that Ubisoft had no current plans to bring out another major installment to The Division franchise. Instead, the focus was on The Division 2 and continuing to support the game. Now, that seems to be changing as there are new plans in place to see The Division 3 released into the marketplace. This is welcoming news for fans of Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise. But don’t expect to hear anything about the new game for a good little while. Here’s what we know so far about the third installment.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 was mentioned in an official Ubisoft post. It was a news update alerting fans that Julian Gerighty is making a return to The Division brand. Currently, the developer is working on Star Wars Outlaws as the creative director. However, prior to taking on the Star Wars project, Julian was centered around The Division, having worked on both installments. Within the post, it’s noted that Julian was the creative director behind the production of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and was the associate creative director for the very first Tom Clancy’s The Division game.
Currently, the process is to ensure Star Wars Outlaws ships, and at that point, Julian will be stepping back into The Division franchise with his sights set on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3. Meanwhile, he will oversee the mobile title release within the franchise, Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, along with Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland. We’re still very early out from seeing the next mainline installment. It’s even noted within the post that there needs to be a team built for the production of Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, so again, don’t anticipate any big news regarding the game for a while.
At the very least, it’s reassuring for fans of the franchise that a new mainline game is coming out into the marketplace. Unfortunately, we can’t pinpoint just when we will see this transition take place either. Currently, Star Wars Outlaws is being developed at Massive Entertainment. But we don’t have a launch date right now. All that Ubisoft has confirmed right now is that the game will be landing in the marketplace sometime next year, 2024. When the game is released, you’ll find it available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
