Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Announced For 2024

September 14, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Check out the trailer right here.

The official Nintendo Direct this month unveiled that the Mario vs. Donkey Kong Game Boy Advance game was being remade. If you haven’t been following the franchise, this series of spin-off games first came to fruition in 2004, with Mario being pinned against Donkey Kong. Within the game narrative of the original installment, the storyline put Mario as the owner of a Toy Company. Creating a hit line of toys featuring small wind-up figures called Mini-Mario’s, Donkey Kong goes on the hunt to purchase one.

However, upon visiting all the stores, Donkey Kong soon realizes that all of the Mini-Mario’s have been sold out. Now furious, Donkey Kong breaks into the Toy Company and steals all the recently produced Mini-Mario’s. Players will take the role of Mario as they venture through a series of platform levels to rescue their toys. This game, as mentioned, first launched into the marketplace back in 2004 for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. During today’s Nintendo Direct, we have a remake in the works that will be launching next year.

This might not have been too surprising of an announcement as there have been rumors that some kind of a game featuring Donkey Kong was going to be unveiled. So, while some fans might have hoped for a brand new installment, we’re instead getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch. So again, apologies to those who were hopeful about a new Donkey Kong Country installment. We’re not sure if there will be any new levels added into the mix, but you can expect the same overall gameplay experience. Players will venture through a series of platform levels where they’re forced into solving puzzles to obtain the Mini-Mario toy and clear the stage.

Fortunately, this game will also feature cooperative multiplayer. However, it’s only set as a local co-op gameplay experience, so you’ll need to get with your player two on the same couch to enjoy this game. Currently, the game is expected to launch early next year on February 16, 2024. That will hopefully give you something new to play at the start of the upcoming year, just as long as it doesn’t get delayed and pushed further back into the upcoming year. At any rate, while we wait for the game to launch into the marketplace, you can view the official Mario vs. Donkey Kong trailer in the video we have embedded below.
