Last month, we covered a live action Hitman video from Realm Pictures and now we have details on the technology used to make the video a reality.
The video was shot in Oldway Mansion in Torquay, UK and involved 22 actors equipped with earpieces and radio mics so their actions could be choreographed with the actions of the live player. 30 HD IP CCTV cameras were also installed and connected to a core infrastructure network that also supported a 5Ghz wireless network across the site in order to enable HD video streaming from the wireless gimbaled camera to a command center.
An IP-enabled tripod mounted gatling gun offering live video streaming from the scope and full pan and tilt control for aiming and firing by remote players was also present.
With players based in London and Los Angeles and no on-site fixed line connectivity, Realm Pictures asked Grapevine Connect to support the shoot with a resilient high bandwidth solution.
The company “had worked with Realm Pictures on their previous Live First Person Shooter in the disused Fawley Power Station so pretty much knew what to expect, however, the requirement for inbound device control and a separate two-way audio channel made this solution a little different than the last one.
“Grapevine’s solution was to combine a MAX HD2 MediaFast with a pair of MAX BR1 LTE routers on its WAN ports. This provided four multi-operator LTE connections and local web caching on site to help reduce the amount of bandwidth consumed by general web browsing and internet activity.”
