The developers behind Cyberpunk 2077 are actively working to bring out the one and only expansion for the game. We know Phantom Liberty is launching this coming month, and it will bring out plenty of new content. If you need a reason to enjoy Night City again, this expansion will hopefully provide you with one. However, even if you don’t dive into the game for the latest expansion, Night City’s feel and gameplay will be a bit different. A major update is coming with 2.0, and today, CD Projekt Red is offering players some small insight into one area that is getting a revamp, that being the police system.
Night City is rough, and it’s not for the weak. You need to be able to handle yourself in the hustle and bustle of this location. So, as you can imagine, with so many strong-minded people in a tightly packed neon-filled city, it will result in some chaos. Even if Night City is made for the tough and strong-willed, law enforcement is present to keep a tight grip on gaining control of the area. So those who break the law or endure a cyberpsychos state will have the authorities hot on their trail. With 2.0, the update will make sure the police behave a bit differently.
A blog post on the official website for Cyberpunk 2077 highlights the changes. There is a new Heat system which will provide up to five stars. Depending on how much trouble you’re creating, it will cause your Heat to rise. If you prove too much of a problem and no amount of chasing or roadblocks will keep you in place, the Max Tac will send out quite a boss battle experience your way. Of course, the developers don’t want you to feel restrained now with the police system. Instead, it’s aimed to give you just as much fun as before. If you get into trouble, you must flee and stay out of sight. Eventually, your Heat will drop, and you can explore Night City in the open again.
It’s worth pointing out that while CD Projekt Red is preparing to launch Phantom Liberty, the base game will receive this 2.0 update. However, it’s only coming for the current-generation consoles along with the PC. The same can be said for the Phantom Liberty expansion when it launches on September 26, 2023. Unfortunately, we already know that this is the last expansion coming to Cyberpunk 2077 as well. CD Projekt Red recently explained their reasoning behind the decision of only releasing on expansion, and no amount of sales will change their mind.
