Overwatch Developers Discuss Netcode

April 5, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Latest Blizzard Entertainment video talks about Overwatch netcode.

Overwatch is currently in its beta form and with it, gamers have expressed their disappointment in the various bugs found within the game. Since then, Blizzard Entertainment has started to work these issues out and today we’re finally getting word on how Overwatch’s netcode works.

This video showcases engineers Tim Ford and Philip Orwig as they begin to explain how netcode works by showcasing examples with cups and stickers. For those who are unaware of what netcode is then, this video also does a great way of clearing that up.

Essentially, netcode allows the game to register and correct several aspects of online multiplay gameplay. Not only will it calculate how your character moves throughout the map but identify hits or other effects that may have been used and this game features a wide assortment of characters with unique attributes making this an important subject of talk for online gamers.

The engineers for the video game also talk about an upcoming patch that will help resolve some of the issues gamers have noted about during gameplay. Because this game has plenty of characters, weapons, and attributes for each play in-game, there are bound to be plenty of bugs to come up that will need to be addressed. Take a look at the video posted above to see just how developers are working with the video game servers and its client to make Overwatch a seamless gameplay experience.
