The Pokemon Company has been doing many things over the last several weeks, including dropping a Pokemon Presents not too long ago. In it, we got more details on their two-part Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC called “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero,” which will launch its first part on September 13th. The DLC will take us to two new places and give us access to both familiar Pokemon you couldn’t catch in the main game and new ones only in these areas. Today, the company unveiled a new variant that you’ll be able to catch in Part 1, and it’s called Poltchageist.
As you’ll see in the first trailer below, Poltchageist is a Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon that you’ll find in Kitakami. You’ll be in that location for “The Teal Mask” content. It’s the first variant that we’ve found out about for the DLC. It’s not a regional variant, though, because its name differs from the other evolution we know about in Polteageist. So thus, it’s known as a “convergent” evolution, where it is an offshoot of the evolution that came before. These kinds of evolutions have been popular in recent regions, so it’s not too surprising to see them pop up in the DLC.
But wait! There’s more! The Pokemon Company dropped a rather spooky second trailer for Poltchageist. In it, we learn the history of its “birth” and why it is a feared Pokemon in Kitakami. According to the tale, the Pokemon was born because of a tea master. He was so obsessed with “perfecting the art of tea time” that he drove people away and thus died alone. The caddy that the tea master had changed many hands until, eventually, the Pokemon was born from the caddy.
That doesn’t sound so bad, right? Well, the story isn’t done yet.
The tale then notes that the Pokemon doused a woman with some of its matcha and that it drained her life force as a result. It would later go on to “fix” any cracks that it found with its macha. You must say certain things to try and avoid Poltchageist’s “wrath,” and using matcha is forbidden in Kitakami because of what the Pokemon can do.
As you’ll witness in the video below, this tale has a very dark ending beyond what we’ve said, so check it out below:
It’s clear they’re going all out for this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC! So be ready for when part 1, and Poltchageist, arrives on September 13th!
