Starfield Developer Pays Tribute To Ferret Baudoin

August 21, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A look back at the development of Starfield.

It’s hard to imagine that we’re finally almost ready to receive Starfield. Developers are likely still making some adjustments. But the game is nearing its release fast, and it’s easily one of the biggest anticipated titles of this year. While we’re still waiting for that launch date, one developer behind the game looks back at the time spent creating this title. Recently Emil Pagliarulo took to Twitter and offered a tribute to a developer that had recently passed away.

Not everyone who worked on Starfield’s highly anticipated and upcoming launch will be around for the release. One developer that spent some time working on the game was Ferret Baudoin. Ferret has worked on a few projects in the past while at Bethesda, such as being a quest designer and writer for Fallout 4. Likewise, you would also find his credits ranging from the lead quest designer of Fallout 76. However, the developer passed away last year on October 15, 2022. While we can look back at his incredible works across not only Bethesda but other studios, there’s still work put into Starfield from this individual.

🧵(1/8) I've been thinking a lot about the past few years – all the great people I've have had the pleasure of working with, and all the fun, creative discussions and collaborations that have brought #Starfield to life. So of course I thought of Ferret Baudoin. pic.twitter.com/YTkLBY70ZT

Bethesda’s Emil Pagliarulo, the studio design director, took to Twitter and offered some of his experiences with Ferret. With the thread consisting of eight tweets, you’ll get to read about how Ferret has quite a few creative collaborations regarding the upcoming Starfield. In fact, Emil notes that he’s excited for players to experience one of the quests that was a great collaboration between Ferret and himself. Unfortunately, no details were given on where this quest might be in the game.

At any rate, it’s clear that Ferret played a significant role in ensuring Starfield came to fruition. Unfortunately, he won’t be here to see the game cross the finish line. But fans of his previous works will still get to enjoy his latest creation when Starfield does come out into the marketplace. In fact, there’s already a slew of spoilers and leaks popping up online. So you will want to be careful not to stumble upon any spoilers if you want to experience Starfield when it launches.

Likewise, there are already some criticisms because of these leaks and spoilers. One of these criticisms comes from another developer. That’s when Bethesda’s Pete Hines took to Twitter and called out this individual for being unprofessional over their views and comments on the work Bethesda’s team put into the game. But again, you don’t have long to wait before Starfield launches.

Currently, Starfield is set to launch into the marketplace on September 6, 2023. When the game does release, you’ll be able to pick up a copy on both the PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms. However, since this is a first-party title from Microsoft, you’ll also find the game available on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
