With all the news and discourse going on around Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, there’s a new rumor suggesting that this game isn’t what everyone seems to think it is.
In the past few days the news surrounding Call of Duty Modern Warfare III has not been good. We had reported yesterday that dataminers have found that Call of Duty Modern Warfare III comes up in PlayStation’s systems as Call of Duty Modern Warfare II add-ons. This corroborates earlier rumors that Call of Duty Modern Warfare III really is made up of what was originally intended to be Call of Duty Modern Warfare II DLC.
It came to the point that Activision got defensive about Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, declaring that the game is a premium title, and is priced accordingly at $ 70. Now, it’s normal if you are a gamer who is following the rumors and believes them to be true, to regard Activision’s statement with skepticism. But there may be something to it after all.
Two Call of Duty players and online influencers named ProReborn and The Ghost Reborn have tweeted about Call of Duty Modern Warfare III being and ‘end of an era’ for the franchise. We will quote ProReborn’s tweets directly below:
“Just heard something down the grapevine about something that happened in CoD and the internet will be in shambles when it surfaces.
That’s all I will say.
Just a PSA and I’ll say no more since some people are thinking this is a life or death thing.
No, this is not a scandal, it’s not a death, not something dramatic.
It’s just something that will signify the end of an era of our beloved game franchise.
If you think this is an impression farm you’re delusional, I made $160 off 103 million impressions last month.
Worthless amount of money to farm over. You’ll see in due time and understand.”
ProReborn also replied this way in response to a question about this change to the franchise:
“nothing that has to do with personal, family or physical safety. Just something related to the game(s) that people will be heartbroken over.”
The Ghost Reborn also made a cryptic video on Twitter in response to ProReborn, that you can watch below.
So what could this possible end of an era be? Is this simply referring to the end of the marketing deal Sony has with Activision for Call of Duty? That will lead to a new era of Call of Duty under Microsoft, for sure.
Is Activision planning another new timeline reboot for the franchise? It is possible fans attached to the characters and their current voice actors will be sad for such news.
We don’t have any frame of reference to make a good guess on this, but it’s certainly compelling to think about. For now, we know that Call of Duty Modern Warfare III will be releasing on November 10, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Steam and Battle.net.
