Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games, has released a video discussing the future of the Resistance franchise, following yesterday's announcement that the studio was finished with the series.
Insomniac has made no secret of the fact that they were moving into multiplatform development and away from their first-party franchises, but Price still wanted to take the time to clarify exactly what that depature means for Resistance fans.
"A question we’ve gotten a lot through the forums and emails is 'Why?’ Well, we believe Resistance has reached the logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell.
"However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing. It’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic and with Sony’s shepherding we know that it will continue to live on and expand, and we’re excited, as fanboys, to see where it goes."
As Price noted, Sony currently holds the license to the Resistance franchise, and any future developments will be at their discretion, not Insomniac's. At the moment, Nihilistic Software is developing a spinoff, Resistance: Burning Skies, for the PlayStation Vita. That game is expected to launch this summer.
