We have a new rumor that Activision is prepared to reveal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III this month.
This comes from dataminers who have been going through the Call of Duty website. As shared by CODWarfareForum on Twitter, Activision is calling the reveal event Shadow Siege, and they even have a date! It will be on August 17, 2023.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is expected to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows on Battle.net and Steam. There is a possibility that Activision will port the game to Nintendo Switch.
And that’s the big question here. While Microsoft signed a deal to bring Call of Duty games to the Nintendo Switch, we don’t know the details to that deal. We at least know that Microsoft has committed to bringing the same games to Nintendo’s platforms for ten years.
Among the unknowns in that situation is if Microsoft will close their deal with Activision this year at all. While it does look like everything has been finally accounted for, we can’t be completely sure until they actually sign it. As far as we do know, Microsoft and Activision agreed to delay the deal so that they could secure unqualified clearance from the UK’s CMA.
After that, the next unknown is Nintendo’s next console, and if Nintendo will be releasing it soon. We have also been reporting on rumors that Nintendo might be revealing the console this month, with a release planned for the second half of 2024.
Rumors on Nintendo’s next console have seemed incredible, with some speculation that Nintendo has secured a CPU from Nvidia that could be more powerful than the Steam Deck, and can deliver ports of games from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
While some fans are hung up on Nintendo’s reputation for using older or weaker technology, we should remember that the Switch itself delivered a power and performance level fans did not anticipate. That’s because Nvidia can make those higher end CPUs at a cost Nintendo will accept.
Aside from that, of course, the next console after the Nintendo Switch obviously can’t just be a slight upgrade. Gamers are already feeling the Switch isn’t powerful enough to run the games they want to play on it, impossible ports aside.
Getting away from Nintendo, we at least know that this won’t be the last Call of Duty game on PlayStation. It will be the last one on Sony’s marketing contract, however, so you can expect PlayStation to ramp up on marketing for it after they release Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
