Nintendo’s The Last of Us Knockoff Gets Delisted

August 1, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A blatant copy.

There is no shortage of blatant copies of popular video games. These copies don’t tend to do well in the marketplace compared to the titles they are based on. But some developers are hopeful that these copies might trick some easy sales. I’m sure you recall the horrible knockoff from Sony’s Naughty Dog The Last of Us title. The game was called The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival, and it quickly spread online and gained quite a bit of attention. That actually sparked some players to pick the game up despite the title being quite a dud and a poor copy of The Last of Us.

However, thanks to a report from Eurogamer, we’re finding out that the game was delisted from the Nintendo eShop. Now when you head to the official store page for the game, you’re met with a 404 error. Likewise, it was found that the game trailer online was quickly taken down from a claim by Sony. So it could be that Sony reached out to Nintendo and had this game removed. But it could be a matter of time before this title shows up on a PC digital marketplace. Regardless, there are still plenty of trailers and gameplay footage of this title online for viewers to watch. For instance, below, you can view a video from the YouTube channel named Rockki, which has a speedrun of the entire campaign.

Again, it’s a poor copy of The Last of Us, but it had a small following with as much coverage and media attention as the game received last month. For now, it looks like if you didn’t purchase this game on the Nintendo Switch, you’re out of luck getting a copy now. Instead, you’re better off just going through the actual Naughty Dog release for The Last of Us. While you can’t get a copy of that game on the Nintendo Switch, it’s been released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and even the PC platform.

Meanwhile, in other news related to The Last of Us, we’re still waiting for the strike Hollywood strikes to end. That is holding up the production for HBO’s live-action adaptation series of the popular game. Fortunately, there has already been one episode written down completely before the strikes kicked off. Depending on how long these strikes last will determine if the second season is pushed further back than what was initially expected.
