An Alan Wake 2 developer seems to have expressed concern about the rumored release of a Red Dead Redemption Remaster.
As reported by Tech4Gamers, Remedy Entertainment director Kyle Rowley made this glib tweet in response to the rumors:
“I swear to god, if the rumoured Red Dead remastered comes out on October 17th. Don’t you do it @RockstarGames. PLEASE!”
Red Dead Redemption Remaster has yet to be officially announced, so there are no platforms or release date.
Still, the rumor is quite red hot at the moment. In fact, we had last reported on it just two days ago.
All the speculation is being driven by a recent rating for the game from the Korean video game rating agency. The thing is, that same rating agency had already submitted their own rating for the original release of Red Dead Redemption. This is how we know that this new rating for the same title isn’t just a rerelease of the original game.
Whether the rumors are true or not, the prospect of a Red Dead Redemption Remaster is one of those dream projects, well, much like the recently released Metroid Prime Remastered. Both are shooters that carry both an appeal for fans of classic games, and also for shooters.
Of course, Red Dead Redemption is also a considerably bigger game than the original Metroid Prime. We are talking about one of the first open worlds that Rockstar built on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and it has a zombie expansion to boot. It had long been a point of contention that Rockstar never produced a PC port for it, so fans would be eager for news that Rockstar has finally gotten around to doing that.
On the flip side, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 is a dream project in its own right. I won’t go through its convoluted history all over again. But, it truly was completely unexpected that Remedy would get the rights back to this franchise from Microsoft, much less that they would be working on a sequel after all this time. Microsoft certainly isn’t lacking for defunct video games under their control, but just won’t work to bring back.
Maybe Remedy has some reason for concern, for real, not just in jest. But consumers really win on this either way, as that would just add even another layer to how many big name titles released in this year. It really could come down as one of the greatest years in gaming.
Meanwhile, Alan Wake 2 is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Steam and Epic Games Store, on October 17, 2023
