When it comes to the franchise starring Samus Aran, one of the most numerous things you’ll see about it are the rumors about what’s coming and what’s coming up next. Case in point, for years, there were rumors about the Metroid Prime Remastered game coming to Switch or the entire trilogy coming to Switch. There were “confirmed rumors” all over the place about the titles, and yet, nothing happened. That is until Nintendo shadow-dropped the first game’s remaster on Switch and set the internet on fire. According to one guy, Metroid Prime 2 might be doing the same later this year or early next.
That guy is insider Jeff Grubb, who, on the latest episode of his podcast, stated that Metroid Prime 2 would come to Nintendo Switch “relatively soonish.” On the one hand, that wouldn’t be the most outrageous thing to hear, but on the other hand, we’ve heard these kinds of rumors before. So as always, you can’t trust these statements unless you hear them from Nintendo, which we have not as of yet.
Another rumor that Grubb tried to put out there is that more Legend of Zelda content may be coming out this year. He clarified that it wasn’t tied to the most recent game, so thus it’s not a DLC package.
Given that Nintendo has already “outlined” the rest of their 2023, that rumor is a bit harder to swallow. It’s not impossible, as Nintendo tends to have a Nintendo Direct in September that they don’t mind announcing games at, but for them to announce a game of that nature so soon before its release? That would be uncharacteristic of The Big N. Yes, they’ve shadow-dropped games in the past, but this would be much different. So you might not want to put the biggest amount of stock into it.
Getting back to Metroid Prime 2, it’ll be curious to see how gamers react to the remaster of this title should it arrive. After all, when the game came to Nintendo Gamecube, it was met with mixed reception. Retro Studios tried to go even bolder with this title via new powers, alternate worlds, and a “Dark Samus,” but not all of it worked out how they hoped.
So you have to wonder if remastering this title will “smooth out the edges” or make them more noticeable.
Once again, these are just rumors made by a guy who has had a spotty record. Only Nintendo can tell us what’s real or not.
