Dylan Jobe, head of the team responsible for maintaining Warhawk and creating Star Hawk, has gone on record saying that he's not happy with the state of 3D on the market and that it's impossible to implement without the developer having to make sacrifices in other areas. This was during an online podcast.
He said that the main goal was to offer content to the majority of users, not the small group that has 3DTVs, and that he didn't want to punish everybody with less content to make the minority happy. Perhaps I'm being cynical here, but I wouldn't be surprise if this is some sort of "we don't have it, so you don't want it" PR ploy, but there'll be quite a few people disappointed by their not being able to play in 3D, whatever the reason.
I think, with my very limited knowledge in this area, that a developer with the right set of skills could implement the feature without too many problems in other areas. I guess it needs to be something that is implemented from the beginning though, built around the other features rather than as an extra after the game is practically finished.
