EA Dice Artist Makes Concept Art For Game Based On The Mandalorian

July 18, 2023 by Todd Black

This is the way.

Let’s give a bit of a history lesson to start this off. Star Wars is one of the most important franchises ever made. Created by George Lucas, the stories told in a galaxy far, far away have spanned the globe and brought people together for decades. But when the Sequel Trilogy was in theaters, things started to unravel. Two of those movies were so divisive that people thought the franchise had finally “run its course” and that nothing could come along to save it. Enter, The Mandalorian, a TV show based on an original character by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

The impact of this show was so great that since its arrival, we’ve had numerous series pop up from the universe, and more are on the way. But to many, the tale of “Mando” and Baby Yoda is still the best. That thought also resonated in the mind of EA DICE Technical Artist Gav. On Twitter, Gav revealed to the world some concept art he had been working on for a potential game focused on The Mandalorian. As you’ll see below, the art is spectacular:

Back at it again making mockups for games that don't exist. Here's some UX/UI art & design practice I've been doing in recent days.

To be clear, this isn’t for a real game yet. But Gav put some serious work into it and even detailed all he used to make these shots.

The reaction online was incredibly positive, and it’s not hard to see why. Again, Mando is very popular, and Season 3 of his show was well-received, as were the first two. So seeing him again in a video game setting would make fans happy.

The irony is that this is more feasible than some may think. There was a Star Wars game that focused on a bounty hunter in the past, but it was focused on Jango Fett and set to “bridge the gap” between the game and when Jango appeared in the Prequel Trilogy.

However, given that fans are excited about Star Wars Outlaws and having games that aren’t focused on Jedi and Sith, this could be something that EA/Lucasfilm considers going forward.

The setup would be simple, as it would feature Mando and possibly Baby Yoda trying to live their lives as Mandalorians when a job comes up that takes them across the galaxy once again.

The gameplay would feature blasters and other weapons to help Mando stand apart, with the occasional Force assist from Baby Yoda.

All in all, it would likely sell very well. But it would also take a few years to make, so they better get on this now!
