Ubisoft recently unveiled its big Star Wars project to the world. We got our first look at Star Wars Outlaws using the Xbox showcase. This new title will put players in the role of an outlaw named Kay Vess, who is joined by a small little critter companion named Nix. We know that the focus here is that we’re embarking on a journey to pull off one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen. Furthermore, we know that this game is set between the events of the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. But there were still plenty of questions we had left unanswered.
Today, thanks to a report from MP1ST, we’re learning that the creative director behind the upcoming game, Julian Gerighty spoke with EDGE in their latest magazine issue. During their conversation, we learned a few little tidbits of information. For instance, there was much focus on ensuring the worlds you land on will feel detailed. Each location was handcrafted, which might be a welcomed announcement during a time when we see several studios make use of procedurally generated content. Likewise, while you might be venturing off to different planets, it’s noted that you won’t be able to fly around the planets freely.
Instead, there will be set locations on a planet where you can land and take off from your ship. Additionally, there is at least one planet noted to be quite massive. While we don’t know which planet this will be, there is apparently one comparable to two or three zones of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. So I’m sure there are bound to be quite a few points of interest to reach while on this planet. Again, we’ll have to wait and see if anything is noted to the public regarding what else we can expect when this game launches.
Speaking of the game launching, we’re not given a specific release date just yet. Instead, the development team working on Star Wars Outlaws and Massive Entertainment has only given a launch window of 2024. When the game does drop into the marketplace, you’ll find it available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. In the meantime, while we wait for more news to emerge online, you can check out a game trailer for the title in the video we have embedded below.
