If you can recall last week, Square Enix held a special event known as Final Fantasy Uncovered. It was during this event that more information and announcements were made surrounding their upcoming release, Final Fantasy XV. One of those announcements was based on the upcoming special editions that would be coming out for the game and how there would be a limited supply, making it difficult for some gamers to get their hands on one. Now it seems Square Enix may hold a second production run of these special editions to battle against raised eBay prices.
Because Final Fantasy is such a massive franchise, the demand for a special edition of Final Fantasy XV proved to be a problem when gamers tried to get their hands on a pre-order. The editions quickly sold out with the pre-orders quickly flooding online through eBay, causing gamers to overpay in order to receive one of the units.
Square Enix took notice and Final Fantasy XV’s game director, Hajime Tabata, announced through the Japanese Final Fantasy Twitter account, which was later translated by Siliconera, that the development team is sorry about what is going on with the special editions and that they are looking to increase its production. Regardless, Square Enix will make an announcement as soon as there is any progress on the matter.
This will come as a pleasant surprise for some gamers who were forced to pay over $500 to $700 in order to get a special edition online when the premium edition originally only cost $270 through the Square Enix online store.
