When it comes to Everspace 2, the title launched earlier this year for those on PC Game Pass subscription service, so some players have already been able to get their hands on the game. But soon, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players will get their chance to play through this game. Preorders are available, and with it, you’ll find that this gameplay experience will have been better overall thanks to Rockfish Games’ deal they struck with Microsoft and their Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
Thanks to a report from PSU, we’re finding out that Michael Schade, the CEO of Rockfish Games, spoke with Xbox Expansion Pass. During their talk, the topic of Game Pass came up, in which the CEO had some rather positive things to say. One of the questions that was presented was if the game being on Game Pass for the PC actually hurt sales, but that’s one area Michael Schade admitted that he didn’t see much of a dip. So it looks like despite the game already being available on Game Pass for the PC platform, it didn’t have any negative consequences in units being sold on the likes of Steam. However, it looks like Michael found their deal with Game Pass to be largely beneficial across all platforms.
The Rockfish CEO noted that Game Pass is an incredible deal for the industry and especially for studios that might be a bit smaller. Through Game Pass, Everspace 2 was able to get more visibility and even funding. That allowed the studio to thrive further while remaining independent. But on top of that, this extra funding is what helped make Everspace 2 a better game for PlayStation 5 players. While the latest installment is not out yet, Michael noted that PlayStation fans will get a better game for the PS5 thanks to their deal and funding received through Game Pass.
We’ve heard previous statements from Sony PlayStation head, Jim Ryan, stating that no publisher likes Game Pass or the model Microsoft made. But it doesn’t look like this blanket statement is true for everyone. Currently, Everspace 2 is available to pick up and play on the PC platform. Meanwhile, we know that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players will get access to the game on August 15, 2023. In the meantime, you can check out a trailer for the upcoming game in the video we have embedded below.
