Very few games were confirmed for the Nintendo Direct that dropped today. But the one that Nintendo made sure to state was getting a trailer was Pikmin 4. That wasn’t too much of a surprise for the simple reason that the game is coming out next month, and the titles with Pikmin honestly do rather well because people love the unique gameplay that is done via Pikmin. We already had a story trailer drop a little while back, so the question was about what the new trailer would show us. Turns out, it would show us quite a bit.
As noted in the story trailer, you are the newest recruit of the Rescue Corps, and that’s ironic because it’s the Corps that needs rescuing. Several members, including Olimar himself, have crash-landed on a planet that resembles Earth in some ways but has many unique and terrifying monsters you’ll have to deal with. But you’re never alone in dealing with them.
First, you’ll have the titular Pikmin. But there’s also a “rescue pup” that you’ll have at your beck and call called Oatchi. That dog will be one of your biggest helpers in more ways than one. For example, Oatchi is so large that it can carry items for you, so you can put them in specific spots. Or, if you need to cross a body of water, you can ride on Oatchi’s back alongside the Pikmin so that you don’t drown.
Furthermore, thanks to Oatchi’s bulk, he can fight monsters! But be careful! He can also take damage from them. So don’t put this “good boy” in danger, you hear?
Another mission you’ll have in the game is to fix your ship by collecting “treasures” scattered throughout the world. The more you do that, the more access to the world you’ll get. You’ll need that access to find the castaways scattered about it.
Plus, you’ll have access to an underground section of the map where things will be even weirder and wilder than before.
We mean that literally, as you’ll sometimes have to face off against a unique foe in “Dandori Battles” to try and save the castaways!
But that’s not all. For the first time, you’ll be able to do missions at night via new creatures called Glow Pikmin! But be warned! The creatures of the world grow more aggressive at night!
You can check out the gameplay trailer below and get Pikmin 4 when it arrives on July 21st!
